Technology Development and Deployment Strategy of Carrier Ethernet

She is an engineer at the China Telecom Corporation Ltd. Beiing Research Institute, engaged in the research on IP network technologies. Her research interests include convergence service bearing and VPN networking. She has published over 10 papers.

    Chen Yunqing received his master’s degree in communications and electronic systems from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Now he is a senior engineer at the China Telecom Corporation Ltd. Beiing Research Institute. He is also a member of Data Group of China Telecom Science and Technology Committee, and a part-time master’s advisor of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He has been engaged in many research projects on IP/MPLS networking, MAN, application solutions, broadband wireless access, and more, since he joined the Research Institute of China Telecom Corporation Ltd. in 2002.

Abstract: Carrier Ethernet (CE ) is gradually stepping away from standardization and testing to deployment and application in live networks. Although great improvement has been made in the reliability of various CE technologies, there is need for improvement in their Quality of Service (QoS ), Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OAM ), especially the multi-vendor interoperability. The deployment of CE should be service-oriented, and the factors, such as maturity of related technologies and standards, deployment costs, and the complexity of network reconstruction as well as the interoperability with other vendors, should be taken into full consideration to flexibly select appropriate networking technology for different application scenarios according to technical features.
